Our values for programs & outings

At RPA/RLT, programs & outings are one way we connect our conservation efforts to the community. Our goal is to connect people to the land, to others in the community, and to our organization through educational and recreational events. We strive to create a welcoming space for everyone to be outdoors and on our lands, and to encourage spaces where people can share their knowledge and experiences surrounding nature and the outdoors.

Participant waiver
Participants in RPA programs and outings and volunteer opportunities must sign off on our participant waiver. If you have questions about the waiver, please contact programs@rensselaerplateau.org.

Leading programs & outings for RPA
Many of our programs and outings are led by volunteers or outside leaders. If you’re not quite ready to lead on your own, you can volunteer to be a second leader for an event led by a more experienced leader. This is a great way to get to know people in the RPA community and get a sense for how programs and outings work

If you have expertise in a particular area, we may be able to work with you to create an event that’s customized for you. We’ve had volunteers lead programs and outings on tree identification, aquatic insect identification, nature writing, wetland protection, and geology, just to name a few.

Dog policy for programs & outings
Our Rensselaer Plateau Alliance (RPA) programs and outings are dog-free. However, service animals are welcome.

Professional use of RPA lands
No fee events

If you are looking to host a no fee event (participants are not required to pay a fee or make a donation to participate) at one of our properties, let us know so we can review our policies with you, and make sure the date and space are available for a larger group.

Fee events

If you are looking to host a fee event (participants must pay a fee or make a donation to participate), please get in touch with us before planning or publicizing your event. There is an approval process for all paid events on our properties, and a percentage of fees will be required. We will also need to review our policies with you, and make sure space is available for a larger group.

Whether I'm charging a fee or not, why would I need to let RPA know about my event?

Great question! Some of our properties are better suited to host groups with amenities such as expanded parking lots, vault toilets, etc. We also host events across our land that may be happening when you hope to host an event, and parking will not be sufficient. We want you to have the best, most seamless experience visiting our properties, and planning ahead is essential to that goal for group events.

To start the process of holding an event at one of our lands, please contact programs@rensselaerplateau.org.

Recurring events

Many of our programs & outings recur on a regular schedule. For an up-to-date list of recurring events, please visit our Recurring Events page.
